Various media reports indicate that NFL owners have approved Wayne Huizenga’s sale of 50 percent of the Miami Dolphins to New York real estate billionaire Stephen Ross.
The transaction was approved during Monday’s league meetings.
Huizenga remains the managing partner for now, though Ross is buying Dolphin Stadium and surrounding land, according to an Associated Press story.
Ross will apparently eventually take over full-time ownership. Ross previously was a minority owner of the New York Islanders, an organization that hasn’t done much in … decades.
What does it all mean? Who knows. The guy has truckloads of money and he’s redceived honors for business, civic and philanthropic activities. Can he evaluate quarterbacks, offensive linemen or, probably more importantly, football coaches and executives?
Time will tell. On the upside, the Dolphins couldn’t get much worse than they have been for the last few years. Maybe things are looking up in South Florida.
