Chris Henry finally ran out of chances. The Cincinnati Bengals issued a statement wherein team President Mike Brown said: “Chris Henry has forfeited his opportunity to pursue a career with the Bengals. His conduct can no longer be tolerated.”
Good to know that even the Bengals have limits. It’s a move that had to be made, but probably should have one or two transgressions ago.
What a waste of talent. This guy is really, really good. If he’d pull his head out Henry could be a top receiver for some team. Plenty of teams need a guy with his skills. But he’ll be on a short leash from here on out, one would guess.
Anyway, his loss coupled with the off-season program absences and ongoing frustrations of Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh, leaves the Bengals thin at the position. They also have Antonio Chatman, Glenn Holt, and Marcus Maxwell on the roster. Perhaps running back Chris Perry could split out if necessary as well.
But it sort of screams “need more weapons” for Carson Palmer. I would project an early-round wide receiver in the draft later this month.
And for fantasy folks I think this clunker of an off-season so far drops Carson Palmer, Rudi Johnson and probably every other skill player a notch or two as well. This offense isn’t going to be as threatening without all of its weapons.
