Could it be?
For the second offseason in a row, good ol’ number four is retiring.
Brett Favre has instructed his agent to tell the New York Jets he has decided to retire, according to ESPN.
Last year Zoneblitz predicted that Favre’s retirement would be short-lived. I had a hunch the guy would be back for at least one more last minute comeback win over my hometown Vikings.
I’m not 100 percent convinced he’s done for good this time, but I’m leaning toward believing it. Favre looked pretty rough the last quarter of the 2008 season. He can still fling the pig but with increasing frequency it ends up falling to the ground or fluttering into the hands of defensive players.
He’s not the same player in the cold either.
Nonetheless, if he does retire it’ll close the book on an interesting and at times amazing career. And when Tony gets around to writing the 2014 Hall of Fame post Favre’s name will definitely be on the list.

Our 2009 Pro Football Hall of Fame Inductees post had a lot of discussion around it, so we figured we’d better come back and take a chance at 2010.
First, taking a look back at 2009, we only hit 3 of the 5 non-senior inductees–Randall McDaniel, Derrick Thomas and first time eligible Bruce Smith. Also making it were first timer Rod Woodson, who we debated about including, and figured would make it in a year or two, and Bills owner Ralph Wilson, who snuck in despite not even being a finalist in 2007 or 2008, and seemed like a bit of stretch to me, given the recent way he’s treated the people of Buffalo with his team (the whole Toronto thing).
Regardless, here’s looking ahead to 2010:

Tony P. brought up another good point in the Pro Football Hall of Fame 2010 Senior List post–since we’re coming up on the 2009 season, we might as well start looking forward to the Team of the Decade for 2000-2009.
So Andy and I put our heads together. We looked at past All-Decade teams and did some quick and dirty research on the past decade’s post-season profiles. Several positions had a glut of superstars while others were lacking. So we decided to not focus on naming a specific number of players from any given spot but on recognizing players with sustained stretches of great play.
Feel free to let us know what you think.

Back in August, we announced who we thought would be the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2009. Since then, there have been over 200 comments left on that post, and even more on subsequent postings about who might make it, and what senior candidates should be considered.
And today, we found out who made the cut:

Alright, to take a cue from Tony P. on the 2009 Hall of Fame thread, we’re posting a potential list of senior candidates for the Class of 2010 Hall of Fame induction. Feel free to leave your comments below.
Also, we’ll likely be posting our thoughts on the Class of 2009 on Saturday after the announcement, and we’ll probably have a 2010 prediction thread going shortly after the annoucement as well.
Tony P.’s full 2010 Senior Candidate list is after the jump–thanks for taking the time to pull that together…

Thinking I had a chance to finally prove Bachslunch wrong on a Hall of Fame matter (I didn’t–I thought that the Hall could take seven inductees regardless of whether they are senior candidates or not, but they are considered seperately), I came across this article on the Hall of Fame Web site that outlines the voting process, and lists the Hall of Fame Board of Selectors.
Looking at the list of selectors, a few things jumped out at me:

Haha ... more voters "ejected"
Hall wants more recent, well known, popular players elected and that’s what they are likely to get
Chances any pre 2000 players (aka seniors) make final 13 while going up head to head against post 2000 players…
