Another quick Hall of Fame post from a site I just found recently–The33rdTeam.com. With a content team that features several former NFL Coaches, Executives & Players, in theory they should know what they’re talking about.
They recently put out a post about current NFL players that they believe are going to make the cut to Canton–and some that are on the fence.
Their verdict:
IN:
DL Aaron Donald
WR Julio Jones
TE Travis Kelce
QB Patrick Mahomes
G Zack Martin
LB/DE Von Miller
QB Aaron Rodgers
K Justin Tucker
LB Bobby Wagner
OT Trent Williams
LIKELY IN:
RB Derrick Henry
WR Tyreek Hill
DE Cam Jordan
C Jason Kelce
G Quentin Nelson
OT Jason Peters
QB Russell Wilson
POTENTIAL:
WR Davante Adams
G Joel Bitonio
DT Fletcher Cox
DE Myles Garrett
LB/DE Khalil Mack
WR/RB/KR Cordarrelle Patterson
CB Jalen Ramsey
QB Matt Ryan
QB Matthew Stafford
DT Ndamukong Suh
What do you think of their list? Who was miscategorized? Who did they forget? Let us know!
Thanks Tony …
Interesting lists. I dont think Ryan or Stafford will make it. Cox has had a great career but I dont see him or Mack making it either. Patterson will wait awhile but if Hester gets voted in, another returner may never get voted in again. Lets hope I am wrong but I see Vinatieri, Lechler and Tucker down the line before Patterson.
With Payton coaching the Broncos, I see Wilson bouncing back. Last year was a wake-up call that he has to adjust to the game as his body is declining and maybe he didnt put in the work necessary with his new teammates, but its not like he had weapons to work with other than Gordon, who the team released. Juedy is still a work in progress … this team needs to bring in Dalvin Cook who can help in the passing game as well. Fournette could give them a ball control back as well. Wilson needs more weapons but I still believe he will one day make the HOF …
I actually believe DeAndre Hopkins has a better chance than Adams but he needs to rejuvenate his career with either NE or the Titans. Both Jones and Tannehill can benefit from his talent but I still believe the Jets and Rodgers could get him.
Evans for TB has had a great career as well and has a chance. Can he help keep Mayfield’s career going? If Mayfield loses the job to Trask, he may stay a backup for awhile.
Watt for Arizona will get voted in soon, I am still not convinced he has retired–nor Brady for that matter–but CB Stephon Gillmore has as much chance as Ramsey, if he can become a shut-down corner with the Cowboys. We cant forget the Honey Badger in NO either. Matthieu is still an excellent safety …
Where are you on Jason Peter’s Brian
I would go Tyreek Hill 4/7 over Julio Jones 2/7. Henry and Nelson are still potential. The rest looks good.
How many of those would you think deserve 1st Ballot?
offhand only one i can think of is aaron donald tony p
Jason Peters had a long, excellent career Robert. It reminds me of Mike Kenn’s, who still hasnt made the HOF yet … We will see how long it takes for both to be voted in.
For 1st ballot, Donald, Rodgers, Mahomes and maybe Kelce and Watt … Martin should but guards are tougher to be sure of. Wagner might but doubtful. If Henry can reach 12,000 rushing yards and nearly 95 TDs, might have a shot.
Watt was dominant when healthy but will that translate to 1st ballot? Could he come back and play with Jones in KC, or Parsons with Dallas?
appreciate the feedback on jason peters brian i agree with you as usual i also agree on your choices for 1st ballot inductees and the fact that watt seems to be the wildcard
I think the first two lists are pretty good-third one is completely speculative (which is fine) as several there likely not getting in.
Can never understand the amount of attention support Trent Williams gets regarding PFHOF while actual 2020s all decade OT appear to get much less..referring here to Tyron Smith (still playing yet not on this list) plus Jason Peters. I get why Williams has a case, but why definite while thats not case for Smith or Peters-how is his resume that much better??
Watt (3x DPOY) is definite first ballot and Kelce appears to be on that path. And I think both Hopkins and Adams still have work to do in their career to build stronger resumes.
Thanks guys …
Forgot about Tyron Smith. Dunlap has had a great career as well but probably wont make it with many others ahead, including seniors.
Jones for KC has a chance if he can keep his momentum going. Chubb for Cleveland is a great back but needs first team All-Pro selections to help his future chances. Sky is the limit if he can stay healthy but the scattershot style of QB Watson, will limit his touches. Kittle probably wont make the HOF but if Purdy can stay QB, he will get catches, yards and more TDs. His blocking is much better than Kelce’s, who isnt asked to do it much.
TJ Watt has a chance as well but must stay healthy. Bosa in SF can have a great career like Garrett in Cleveland but both need to stay healthy and Bosa needs a SB win. The Niners have been the most consistent team since 2019 other than KC and need to win it all, which would help Fred Warner as well.
First time post here. What about Patrick Peterson and Calais Campbell?
Hi Roger
Im a big yes on peterson for the hall of fame as for campbell not right now maybe in a couple of years
R.Ewing
Peterson will make it … Campbell, I dont think so …
I agree with you Paul on both Hopkins and Adams need to do a little more to get into the HOF as Modern Players.
Peterson is a lock . I wonder if he moves to Safety as he gets long in the tooth? His Int. number at 34 is not that high. It was up last year as I suspect QB’s are throwing his way more. He’s a lot like Revis without the hype .
Campbell is a HOVG player. Lots of those at DE. He reminds me of Oakland Raiders Greg Townsend except a greater physical specimen. Both could look spectacular at times. Campbell a little better motor.
If it was up to me I would put Bobby Wagner in on the 1st Ballot. I’ve got him on par with Brain Urlacher. He doesn’t have the name recognition being stuck up in Seattle for so many years.
Is it even a question, is Andrew Luck a HOFer? Apparently it was for Colin Cowherd today. LOL
With Hopkins going to the Titans, Tannehill may finally be able to find the passing game again. Hopkins needs to work hard, stay healthy and not dog it like Jones did. Burks can get his chance to shine as well because Vrabel wont continue to coach if the team cant win games.
There is speculation that the training staff isnt up to par with all the injuries this team keeps sustaining but with health this year and the big three of Tannehill, Henry and Hopkins playing to their ability … this team could make noise in the postseason. Hopkins can still prove he is a HOF capable receiver again but the offensive line and defense have to get better as well …
I know Belichick wasnt happy with Hopkins work ethic in regards to practices but he still should have obtained him. The Patriots and QB Jones specifically, need weapons to work with and Kraft could continue to get impatient if the Patriots cant make the playoffs. These next two years could be make-or-break for Jones and Belichick, who needs to find or coach-up good receivers … fast
Cam Heyward should be on the potential list imo
I might have underestimated Calais Campbell, though its hard for former Cardinals to make the HOF but his longevity, sacks/tackle numbers and interceptions/TDs could push him in despite lack of All-Pros … High number of forced and recovered fumbles as well.
Good call on Heyward, Scott, who has had an excellent career, very similar to Geno Atkins of the Bengals …
Who’s heading to Canton?….. well I am, will be there Fri-Sun for PFHOF class of 2023 enshrinement events (8th time for me, first since 2010 -plus many other visits over years to just Hall).
Enjoy your trip Paul … I wanted to go in support of Pearson and Howley but cant.
We fans of these Cowboys, are enjoying these times …
test
Wow my computer lit me back in. lol I saved this post maybe you guys on something new but will post anyway.
I’m the king of off base Jeff! Oh fun, a don’t belong list. lol
Definitely do belong.
Maxie Baughan
Eddie Meador
Bob Kuechenberg
Randy Gradishar
Roger Craig
Lester Hayes
Yes – underrated
Steve McMichael – a very active DT with more sacks the Buck Buchanan and Mean Joe Greene.
Clay Matthews Jr. – also super active. Look at the tackles for an Outside Linebacker. And all those sacks!
Yes – if considering shorter number of games
Tommy Nobis
Sterling Sharpe
George Kunz
Art Powell
Larry Brown ?? – A mostly deaf RB who literally gave up his body for the game. His knee was washed up after his 1972 MVP season. A great running back but if you open the door for him then don’t you need to for other great RB’s like Billy Sims and William Andrews who had HOF talent? Brown wasn’t a sensational Gale Sayers type runner so I don’t see him making the HOF but he was sensational in his effort. If he did it would be a great story! I often wonder what would have happened if he had 100 plus yards and a couple TD’s in defeating the undefeated Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl? Would he be in the HOF long ago?
Players who are close but I’m firm no they don’t deserve HOF are : Ken Anderson, Everson Walls , Henry Ellard.
And not just no but hell no! I’m sure they are HOVG.
Carl Banks
Jim Marshall
Stanley Morgan – For most of his career he was nothing more than a deep threat just a little better than Willie Gault. If they want to put a speedster WR in the HOF they can start with Harold Jackson! Mel Gray was a better football player than Morgan IMO.
These are contributors I support in order:
Tom Coughlin
Buddy Parker
Art Modell
Robert Kraft
Dan Reeves
Marty Schottenheimer
Roone Arledge
Mike Holmgren
Art Rooney Jr.
Jim Tunney
Jerry Markbreit
Carl Peterson
Sorry I posted to the wrong story . I should have looked closer. I would delete if i could. Ignore comment and I’ll put on right article.
Was a great weekend Canton (8th for me, first since 2010), first time attending the Friday evening Gold Jacket dinner. Would post some great pics here if I could figure out how best to do that…but if anyone would like to hear more about the experience or has questions, especially if thinking about attending in future, just drop them here.
