NFL Best Bets: Week 12, 2011

We’re rallying a bit here at Zoneblitz.com headquarters, err, well, kind of, anyway.

Tony hit two of four picks in week 11, up from zero the week before. I was right on two of my three normal picks. My upset pick (Cincinnati [+7/+250 moneyline] over Baltimore was right against the spread. But the Bengals failed to finish the straight up win. We’ve been considering the upset pick to be am upset straight up, so I guess I can’t claim a win there.

So … I suppose you should probably keep looking elsewhere if you’re really looking to make a killing at the sports book.

Nonetheless, it fills space, so we’ll keep throwing our thoughts out there. Here goes for week 12: (more…)

NFL Best Bets: Week 11, 2011

Tony keeps saying we don’t know what we’re talking about. I don’t know what he’s talking about. I missed my upset, but nailed my other three. I guess he’s right about himself though as he clocked in with an 0-4 week, matching my futility from the week before.

We may not be any good at this gambling thing but you have to give us credit for persistence. We keep making inconsistent and clueless bets week after week after week. I guess we’re Vegas’ dream in that respect.

So here we go again:

NFL Picks: 2011 Week 10

Well, we’re a little late this week–we had our picks turned in with plenty of time, we just didn’t get them posted, due to our real jobs.  And sitting at the two minute warning of the San Diego/Oakland game, it certainly looks like we’re both starting 0-1.

As suspected, Week 9 produced a 1-win advantage for myself, tying Andy and I for the season record at 84-46, which isn’t bad—you’d think that if we could pick games straight up at a 65% clip, that we could pick better bets than we do.  But for whatever reason, no.

Another week of very similar picks this week, but two games (St. Louis/Cleveland and New England/NY Jets) will determine the overall leader.

NFL Picks: 2011 Week 9

Fortunately I did NOT go back in and make last second changes to Indianapolis & Denver—I was still thinking they might pull off the upsets, but figured it wasn’t worth it to make the change.  Unfortunately, I didn’t think any more about Carolina or Philadelphia.  Of course, no changes meant we had the second week of the season where Andy and I matched all of our picks—so no change in the season race, Andy still leads by one game (75-41 vs. 74-42).

We finished the week 8-5, and this week’s picks show exactly why jumping out to an early season lead in a pool like this is so important—we have only one game different this week, with Andy going out on a limb with the San Diego Chargers against the currently undefeated Green Bay Packers.

NFL Best Bets: 2011, Week 8

I’ve been avoiding picking my bets for the week, in part because the lines have looked so unappealing to me.  But, as any good(?) gambler should, I’ll throw something out there.

Andy and I both went 2-2 last week, which isn’t so surprising I guess, when we both had the same upset of the week.  Unfortunately, 2-2 was still pretty much the highlight of our football week’s–we didn’t quite lose all of our fantasy football match-ups, but most of the bigger ones.  This week, in addition to our betting picks, we’ve got some pride on the line as well, as we go head-to-head in the one fantasy league that we both have teams in.
