It’s the holidays and we all really should be spending this time with our families, so I won’t belabor the point. Last week’s survivor results mirrored those for the rest of the season: The rest of us got our picks wrong, but Fantasy Editor Anthony Maggio continued his run with a comfortable Carolina win.
He now sits at 15-1 as the season comes to a close.
Here are the week 17 selections:
Maggio: San Francisco over Arizona
Teams used: Detroit, Miami, NY Jets, Green Bay, Atlanta, San Diego, New Orleans, Denver, New England, Dallas, Seattle, Baltimore, Indianapolis, Minnesota, Kansas City, Carolina
The 49ers are a dumpster fire, but I think they pull it together to send Jim Harbaugh out with a victory in what is surely his final game as their head coach. Playing against an injury-depleted Arizona squad certainly helps their cause. I don’t love hanging my season on this train wreck, but there were only four teams I picked as Week 17 winners who I even had left to choose from, and the Giants, Texans and Steelers are hardly sure things.
John: Record before eliminated: 4-2 (1-1 in consolation round)
Teams used: Arizona, Dallas, Seattle, Pittsburgh, San Diego, Kansas City, Indianapolis, Green Bay, Baltimore, Buffalo
Eliminated again.
Who I would take if I was still alive: New England over Buffalo: Frankly, I’m surprised I haven’t used the Patriots left, and there’s nothing left to save them for now. Plus, I’m bitter from picking the Bills last week, so I hope the Pats pound them.
Tony: Record before eliminated: 0-2 (4-1 in consolation round)
Teams used: Indianapolis, Cleveland, New England, Denver, Seattle, Arizona, Green Bay, San Francisco, Kansas City, Buffalo
Eliminated again.
Who I would take if I was still alive: Dallas over Washington: I still have no idea which teams I’ve used and which I haven’t, so I’ll throw a team out there that I can’t believe that I would have used at any point this season, because I’ve never believed in them—the Dallas Cowboys. It isn’t that I suddenly do believe—it’s more that they’re playing Washington, and the Cowboys are a better alternative to picking the inconsistent Dolphins over the J-E-T-S Jets Suck Jets.
Andy: Record before eliminated: 2-2 (0-1 in consolation round)
Teams used: Miami, Seattle, Detroit, Denver, San Diego, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Indianapolis, Baltimore
Eliminated again.
Who I would take if I was still alive: Green Bay over Detroit: This is probably cheating a bit. We took a couple weeks off after losing early in the season and then implemented the consolation round. So would I have Green Bay left under normal circumstances? Probably not. But they will win this game comfortably. Matt Stafford hasn’t been great, especially on the road. The team is minus idiot center Dominic Raiola, who even many Detroit fans want to see cut after his cheap shot last week. And the team hasn’t won in the state of Wisconsin since 1991 – when I was a junior in high school. Detroit is improved and deserving of a postseason appearance, but not good enough yet to earn a division title and a bye.
