One would hope Fantasy Editor Anthony Maggio has entered himself in a few survivor pools this season. He’s on a roll.
Our format – double elimination – isn’t the norm for these pools. But he’s still at an impressive 11-1.
The rest of us, well, take our picks for what they are worth – between us I think we’re missed about eight or nine games now. Frankly, we stopped keeping track.
Maggio: Detroit over Chicago
Teams used: Miami, NY Jets, Green Bay, Atlanta, San Diego, New Orleans, Denver, New England, Dallas, Seattle, Baltimore, Indianapolis
I very much dislike picking against my Bears, but we’re late in the season and I’m running out of good options. Detroit’s simply too good on offense for an inconsistent Chicago defense, and you throw in a short week with the Bears traveling on the holiday, and I think Detroit wins comfortably.
Consolation round (single elimination)
Tony: Record before eliminated: 0-2 (4-1 in consolation round)
Teams used: Cleveland, New England, Denver, Seattle, Arizona, Green Bay
Eliminated again,
Who I would take if I was still alive: Indianapolis over Washington – Much like Maggio’s logic last week, one of the better NFL teams, at home, this late in the season? The only possibly wrench to throw in this is if RGKnee decides that he wants to show up Andrew Luck—but I don’t see him or his team having the talent to pull that off.
John: Record before eliminated: 4-2 (1-1 in consolation round)
Teams used: Arizona, Dallas, Seattle, Pittsburgh, San Diego, Kansas City
Eliminated again.
Who I would take if I was still alive: Indianapolis over Washington – My always-pick-against-Oakland strategy finally burned me last week, so I’m going to go a different direction this week (especially since it’s hard to put any faith in the Rams). I love Indy at home this week against Washington in a game that really comes down to the quarterbacks. Andrew Luck is having an MVP-caliber season while RGIII looks completely lost in Jay Gruden’s system.
Andy: Record before eliminated: 2-2 (0-1 in consolation round)
Teams used: Seattle, Detroit, Denver, San Diego, Philadelphia
Eliminated again.
Who I would take if I was still alive: Miami over NY Jets: – There aren’t any games I really feel good about this week. But I was impressed with Miami despite its loss against Denver last week. And the Jets seem to be on the brink of calling it a season. I’m a bit uncomfortable about this being a nationally televised game. It gives the Jets a reason to show some pride. But I’m starting to think the Dolphins are actually a pretty decent team.
