Zoneblitz.com would like to thank the 11 team and fantasy bloggers who helped our own Anthony Maggio conduct our first ever fantasy football mock draft Tuesday night.

The 12-team, 12-round, standard-scoring, PPR draft is chronicled below, with the picks by every team in order by round followed by Maggio’s round-by-round analysis of who got a good deal and who may have reached.

Each of the 11 other participants also were given a chance to weigh in with their opinions on their picks and the draft overall. You’ll notice the hot links on all but Anthony Maggio’s first round picks. If you click there, you will be taken to those write-ups. Maggio’s analysis is at the bottom of this post.

Round 1

The Viking Age RB Adrian Peterson
Mile High Report RB CJ Spiller
Bears Backer RB Doug Martin
Out of My League RB Jamaal Charles
Canal Street Chronicles RB Arian Foster
Zoneblitz Maggio RB Marshawn Lynch
The Landry Hat RB Ray Rice
Behind the Steel Curtain RB Alfred Morris
KC Kingdom WR Calvin Johnson
Turf Show Times RB LeSean McCoy
Colts Authority RB Trent Richardson
Pewter Plank RB Matt Forte

Maggio’s Musings: Biggest surprises here came from my team and Behind the Steel Curtain based solely on the PPR aspect of this. KC Kingdom got the biggest steal with Calvin Johnson at No. 9. Was surprised to see C.J. Spiller go ahead of Doug Martin, but Spiller’s got that kind of upside.

Round 2

Pewter Plank TE Jimmy Graham
Colts Authority WR Dez Bryant
Turf Show Times RB Stevan Ridley
KC Kingdom RB Chris Johnson
Behind the Steel Curtain RB Darren Sproles
The Landry Hat QB Aaron Rodgers
Zoneblitz Maggio WR Brandon Marshall
Canal Street Chronicles QB Drew Brees
Out of My League WR AJ Green
Bears Backer RB Steven Jackson
Mile High Report WR Demaryius Thomas
The Viking Age WR Julio Jones

Maggio’s Musings: Drew Brees  and Aaron Rodgers went too early for my liking even they are my top rated QBs. Jimmy Graham went a little sooner than expected, though I don’t mind the pick. The Darren Sproles pick I thought was a bit early, but with PPR he’s fairly can’t miss. Really liked Bears Backer through two rounds—Doug Martin fell to him, then Steven Jackson fell to him. In PPR, this is scrumptious.

Round 3

The Viking Age QB Cam Newton
Mile High Report QB Peyton Manning
Bears Backer WR Larry Fitzgerald
Out of My League WR Randall Cobb
Canal Street Chronicles RB Maurice Jones-Drew
Zoneblitz Maggio WR Andre Johnson
The Landry Hat RB David Wilson
Behind the Steel Curtain WR Vincent Jackson
KC Kingdom QB Colin Kaepernick
Turf Show Times RB Reggie Bush
Colts Authority RB DeMarco Murray
Pewter Plank WR Roddy White

Maggio’s Musings: Three more QBs, with Colin Kaepernick being the biggest surprise. Personally I’d only draft Rodgers and Brees if they fell this far in a 12-teamer, which they normally wouldn’t. I think Canal Street Chronicles got good value on Maurice Jones-Drew (I’d have scooped him up with the next pick), and while David Wilson went where his ADP dictates, I still am shying away from him at this point. Don’t doubt the talent, just worry about how he’ll be used with Andrew Brown. Great value on Reggie Bush.

Round 4

Pewter Plank RB Frank Gore
Colts Authority WR Victor Cruz
Turf Show Times WR Marques Colston
KC Kingdom WR Dwayne Bowe
Behind the Steel Curtain WR Reggie Wayne
The Landry Hat WR Wes Welker
Zoneblitz Maggio TE Rob Gronkowski
Canal Street Chronicles RB Darren McFadden
Out of My League RB Lamar Miller
Bears Backer WR Danny Amendola
Mile High Report WR Mike Wallace
The Viking Age TE Jason Witten

Maggio’s Musings: Lots of good value in this round, starting with Rob Gronkowski. Same goes for Darren McFadden and Lamar Miller, and I don’t mind Jason Witten this early, especially in PPR. Turf Show Times pretty much had to go WR after taking three straight running backs, and Colston in Round 4 is about as good as one could hope for.

Round 5

The Viking Age RB Giovani Bernard
Mile High Report RB Shane Vereen
Bears Backer RB Le’Veon Bell
Out of My League WR Eric Decker
Canal Street Chronicles WR Hakeem Nicks
Zoneblitz Maggio WR Pierre Garcon
The Landry Hat WR Jordy Nelson
Behind the Steel Curtain QB Tom Brady
KC Kingdom RB Ahmad Bradshaw
Turf Show Times QB Matt Ryan
Colts Authority RB Ryan Mathews
Pewter Plank WR Antonio Brown

Maggio’s Musings: Don’t get me wrong, I’m big Giovani Bernard and Shane Vereen supporters—particularly in PPR—but I felt like they were both reaches here. That said, there wasn’t a lot left to love in the RB pool, and considering both Viking Age and Mile High Report had just one RB each through four rounds, I can support going after the guy you want—particularly with your next selection coming 20 picks later. Tom Brady was probably a pretty good value in this round for Behind the Steel Curtain, though I’m still waiting on QBs and would need him to fall another round before personally considering him.

Round 6

Pewter Plank WR T.Y. Hilton
Colts Authority WR Steve Smith
Turf Show Times WR Torrey Smith
KC Kingdom TE Tony Gonzalez
Behind the Steel Curtain TE Vernon Davis
The Landry Hat WR DeSean Jackson
Zoneblitz Maggio RB Daryl Richardson
Canal Street Chronicles WR Stevie Johnson
Out of My League RB Chris Ivory
Bears Backer QB Matthew Stafford
Mile High Report TE Kyle Rudolph
The Viking Age WR Cecil Shorts

Maggio’s Musings: For as lukewarm as I was on Pewter Plank’s Antonio Brown pick, I LOVED the TY Hilton pick. This despite him going sooner than I anticipated. I thought Mile High Report reached a bit on Kyle Rudolph here, though I’m basically waiting until the end of drafts for a TE once you get past two in standard leagues, and four or five in PPRs.  Chris Ivory was pretty good value for Out of My League despite his injury status and relative lack of use in the passing game.

Round 7

The Viking Age WR Greg Jennings
Mile High Report WR Tavon Austin
Bears Backer RB Montee Ball
Out of My League WR Miles Austin
Canal Street Chronicles WR James Jones
Zoneblitz Maggio WR Anquan Boldin
The Landry Hat 49ers Defense
Behind the Steel Curtain RB Eddie Lacy
KC Kingdom TE Antonio Gates
Turf Show Times WR Mike Williams
Colts Authority QB Andrew Luck
Pewter Plank QB Robert Griffin III

Maggio’s Musings: Of all players in this draft, Anquan Boldin turned into the biggest lighting rod. I think he’s got PPR upside considering Kaepernick’s general lack of targets, but others worry that San Fran will basically ignore the passing game leaving Boldin with name-value only. Very interesting debate. The first defense came off the board as well, with The Landry Hat taking the aforementioned 49ers. I don’t like taking defenses early, as top 10 defenses sit on the waiver wire at the beginning of every season and there is still value at the primary positions available.

Round 8

Pewter Plank RB Andre Brown
Colts Authority WR DeAndre Hopkins
Turf Show Times WR Josh Gordon
KC Kingdom WR Lance Moore
Behind the Steel Curtain WR Kenny Britt
The Landry Hat RB Fred Jackson
Zoneblitz Maggio RB Rashard Mendenhall
Canal Street Chronicles TE Greg Olsen
Out of My League QB Russell Wilson
Bears Backer QB Tony Romo
Mile High Report Broncos Defense
The Viking Age WR Michael Floyd

Maggio’s Musings: I really like the Andre Brown pick to start this round, and think both Lance Moore and Josh Gordon were pretty good value. Another defense came off the board, which I don’t love, but hey: Mile High Report has gotta support his club! Like he did with Demaryius Thomas. And Peyton Manning. I don’t like the Greg Olsen pick by Canal Street Chronicles. It’s not that I don’t like Olsen, it’s just that there are other guys with arguably better upside available later on. And with his No. 1 receiver a high-risk/high-reward guy, I’d have probably grabbed another receiver first.

Round 9

The Viking Age RB Bernard Pierce
Mile High Report QB Eli Manning
Bears Backer TE Jared Cook
Out of My League QB Michael Vick
Canal Street Chronicles Seahawks Defense
Zoneblitz Maggio QB Andy Dalton
The Landry Hat RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis
Behind the Steel Curtain RB Mark Ingram
KC Kingdom RB LeGarrette Blount
Turf Show Times RB DeAngelo Williams
Colts Authority TE Jermichael Finley
Pewter Plank RB Bryce Brown

Maggio’s Musings: With the exception of LeGarrette Blount, the risk versus reward on the running backs in this round was pretty good. Bernard Pierce has limited upside, unless Ray Rice gets hurt. I’d have liked that pick more if The Landry Hat had made it later in the round as Rice’s handcuff. Same if Bryce Brown had gone to Tuff Show Times, though I can’t argue with DeAngelo Williams in that spot. Jared Cook and Jermichael Finley represent those high-upside tight ends I was talking about.

Round 10

Pewter Plank WR Alshon Jeffery
Colts Authority Texans Defense
Turf Show Times Bears Defense
KC Kingdom WR Cordarrelle Patterson
Behind the Steel Curtain RB Isaiah Pead
The Landry Hat WR Emmanuel Sanders
Zoneblitz Maggio Bengals Defense
Canal Street Chronicles K Stephen Gostkowski
Out of My League TE Martellus Bennett
Bears Backer WR Vincent Brown
Mile High Report RB Vick Ballard
The Viking Age TE Owen Daniels

Maggio’s Musings: Some more guys with decent upside here, especially Martellus Bennett, Vincent Brown and Emmanuel Sanders. Alshon Jeffery is also a decent lottery ticket, along with Vick Ballard. I think Coardarrelle Patterson might be a year away from really making a fantasy impact. Not sure I like Isaiah Pead in this round. I think Ronnie Hillman or Jonathan Stewart might have made more sense, especially without Daryl Richardson already rostered.

Round 11

The Viking Age K Blair Walsh
Mile High Report WR Chris Givens
Bears Backer K Matt Bryant
Out of My League K Matt Prater
Canal Street Chronicles WR Justin Blackmon
Zoneblitz Maggio TE Brandon Pettigrew
The Landry Hat K Greg Zuerlein
Behind the Steel Curtain K Justin Tucker
KC Kingdom Chiefs Defense
Turf Show Times TE Jordan Cameron
Colts Authority QB Ben Roethlisberger
Pewter Plank Buccaneers Defense

Maggio’s Musings: Mostly kickers and defenses, though the position players drafted all represent some pretty tremendous upside for this late in the game. Well, except maybe Ben Roethlisberger, who I don’t anticipate owning in any leagues this year. Unless maybe I join a 10-team, 3-QB league. Assuming those exist.

Round 12

Pewter Plank K Sebastian Janikowski
Colts Authority K Garrett Hartley
Turf Show Times K Phil Dawson
KC Kingdom K Adam Vinatieri
Behind the Steel Curtain Rams Defense
The Landry Hat TE Fred Davis
Zoneblitz Maggio K Alex Henery
Canal Street Chronicles RB Jonathan Stewart
Out of My League Ravens Defense
Bears Backer Patriots Defense
Mile High Report K Steven Hauschka
The Viking Age Steelers Defense

Maggio’s Musings: Again mostly kickers and defenses. But hey, nice job by Canal Street Chronicles landing value in Jonathan Stewart!

Favorite Teams: Out of My League, Turf Show Times

Least Favorite Teams: Canal Street Chronicles, Behind the Steel Curtain

Self Assessment: I walked away from this draft thinking three words: could’ve been better.

I don’t HATE my Marshawn Lynch pick at No. 6 overall, but if I had to do it again I’d likely go Calvin Johnson. The reason I didn’t was because in previous mocks I’ve done I haven’t loved my teams that started with Cal, and the other runners I was considering have lower floors than Lynch—though probably higher ceilings, too. I was lucky to have Brandon Marshall fall back to me—a huge help considering Lynch won’t do much in the passing game compared to some of the runners who went later.

I liked Andre Johnson in Round 3, but this cost me down the road for two reasons. No. 1, I left myself vulnerable at running back. No. 2, my top two receivers have the same bye week. Thus, when it was my next pick I was all set to draft Darren McFadden. But when Rob Gronkowski unexpectedly made it back to me, it was just too juicy to pass up. That top four, with presumably a healthy Gronk come playoffs (assuming my team were to make it that far) would be pretty tough in a PPR format. But this pick came with the repercussions of exacerbating my aforementioned RB and bye week issues.

Then, unfortunately for me, Lamer Miller, Giovani Bernard, Shane Vereen and Le’Veon Bell were all taken before my next pick. I wouldn’t have taken Bernard or Vereen this high (though I support those picks), but the other two were queued up. I didn’t think Miller would make it back, but Bell was a tough blow. That sent me back to my WRs since I had that bye week issue and I can flex a receiver anyway. There were a few decent options, but I loved Garcon here.

Unfortunately, as the rest of the draft played out, I was forced to reach for Daryl Richardson and was unfortunate that Chris Ivory didn’t make it back. Rashard Mendenhall was my third running back when the dust settled, leaving this team with work to do on the waiver wire. I’m perfectly happy with my other positions, as there are still solid waiver QBs available and I grabbed a TE with upside as my Gronk insurance. Had this been a more standard 15-round draft, I’d have waiting on K and defense and taken three more RBs in hopes of hitting on a Ronnie Hillman or Mikel Leshoure type.
