LAS VEGAS – Despite yesterday’s brutal showing in the sports book Zoneblitz.com was back at the Golden Nugget this morning plopping down more cash on the opening weekend of professional gridiron action.

We put some action down on several individual games and then we each took a couple parlays as well. Parlay cards are generally seen by professional gamblers as sucker bets due to how they make bit players like us light up because of the progressively large payouts – people think they are smarter than they are and when they put down a few bucks hoping for the big immediate payoff they usually get themselves beat.

So we did it anyway.

Here are the games we picked together:

Jacksonville (-3) over Tennessee
Jacksonville vs Tennessee (Over 37)
Dallas (-6.5) over Cleveland
Dallas vs Cleveland (Over 49)
New York Jets (-3) over Miami
New Orleans (-3) over Tampa Bay

And here are Tony’s parlays. One of these is a Teaser Parlay where Vegas changes the odds but pays out a lower amount. Professional gamblers would probably see Teaser Parlay players as bigger buffoons than Parlay players because you have to pick more than one game correctly with an even more outlandish pointspread than the ones they meticulously set for the individual games — and the payouts are lower.

And then he tacked on a small bet on the Vikings to beat Green Bay on Monday night. Which brings me to one of my favorite – or in today’s case, for me anyway, least favorite – things about this city. Some of these games take place after our plane departs. So whether you’ve won big time or lost your shorts, even after you leave Vegas can continue to giveth and Vegas can continue to taketh away.
