Oof. Ugly week last week. Hit only three of six straight up and two of six against the spread.

Maybe it’s a good thing sports gambling isn’t legal here.

The divisional round is typically my favorite weekend of the NFL playoffs. The pretenders are usually out. There are usually four really good match-ups. This year is no different.

Hall of Fame names 2026 Modern Era Finalists

Nine of this year’s 15 modern-era finalists for enshrinement in the Pro Football Hall of Fame are first- or second-year eligible players.

Drew Brees and Larry Fitzgerald highlight the list of first-year eligible candidates, which is rounded out by Frank Gore and Jason Witten.

Second-year eligibles up for enshrinement include Luke Kuechly, Eli Manning, Terrell Suggs, Adam Vinatieri and Marshal Yanda.

By the Numbers: Best #80 in NFL History

We’re going from a not very impressive list of players who are competing to be the Best #25 in NFL history to one of the most storied numbers in league history.

The #80 rivals the #81 as perhaps the deepest and most competitive jersey digit the league’s teams have ever handed out.

Of course one stands out: Jerry Rice. But with the induction of Cris Carter later this summer, there will be eight players in the Hall of Fame that wore #80 as their primary number, which appears to be the most for a single number.

And there are several more on the list who might eventually find their way to Canton.

In depth 2013: San Francisco 49ers

Everyone remembers how Colin Kaepernick took over for the injured Alex Smith midway through the 2012 season and led the San Francisco 49ers and the team’s fans on a magical ride right through the Super Bowl in February.

There have been a few free agency defections from the roster that finished just a few yards away from winning the Super Bowl after the 2012 season. But for the most part the major pieces that contributed to that deep playoff run remain in place.

And for those who left, the team has 13 draft picks to pick and barter with in the draft later this week. So anyone expecting the 49ers to suddenly fall from the top of the heap is going to be surprised, says Al Sacco, a staff writer for 49ersGab.com and 49ersWebZone.com.
