It seems like one of us gets it almost each week – but it’s never consistently the same person.
John Vomhof Jr. paced the picks last week and he now leads for the season. Andy and Tony have stabilized a bit. Anthony, after posting the best picks for week four, dropped to the bottom with a .500 mark in week five.
Week six includes another slate of largely non-descript games. This league can post a lot of mediocre schedules, when it backlogs divisional match-ups for the last couple weeks of the season and puts a couple teams each week on bye.
We’ll see what we can make out of this week’s jumbly mess.
Here are the standings:
Week 5 | Overall | |
Vomhof | 12-2 | 49-28 |
Tony | 9-5 | 43-34 |
Andy | 9-5 | 39-38 |
Maggio | 7-7 | 37-40 |

Bye weeks: Minnesota, Tampa Bay |
Game of the Week: Atlanta at Seattle – I still find it hard to take the Falcons seriously, even after beating Denver. They’re 4-1, but they gave up 30 points per game on average the first four. The win over the Broncos does provide some substance to the resume, however. Another step would take place this weekend, if Atlanta can keep the run going against Seattle. The Seahawks haven’t necessarily looked good in getting to 3-1, but get there they have. The world class defense appears to be as good as ever and there are too many weapons for the offense to struggle for too long. This could be a preview of a playoff match-up.
Game of the Weak: Jacksonville at Chicago – There were some saying the Bears were going to take a step forward in year two under John Fox. I wasn’t a believer. There just aren’t enough good players on this team yet. They have a shot to beat Jacksonville, however. I did buy into the Jaguars making this a turnaround season. But so far it’s same old, same old. The teams have combined for a 2-7 record and one would guess the only people watching this one on purpose Sunday will be family of players and those who own Jordan Howard in fantasy football leagues.
