Well, we’re finally here. It’s week 17. The NFC playoff participants have been decided. The AFC’s field is narrowed to just a couple question marks. The fantasy football season is complete in every sane league. And now we’ll finish up with one more run at the picks.
Week 16 didn’t go too badly, considering the weird run of games throughout the day. Four of us hit 10. Fantasy Editor Maggio hit 11. Tony has a six-game lead in the standings – the battle between us is almost for second place, where two participants are within a game of Andy. Here are the standings:
Week 16 | Season | |
Maggio | 11-5 | 147-90 |
Tony | 10-6 | 155-85 |
Andy | 10-6 | 149-91 |
Rich | 10-6 | 148-92 |
Vomhof | 10-6 | 139-101 |
The NFL really did itself a favor when it moved to a primarily division-rival-based final two weeks of the season. There are some really good games this week. And … there are some doozies. Here’s who we think will win.

Game of the Week: Minnesota at Green Bay – We could have gone with the Seahawks/Cardinals game or maybe the Jets/Bills contest, which features Rex Ryan’s former team visiting his current one with the Bills having a chance to knock the Jets out of the playoffs – but ultimately the border battle between the Vikings and the Packers, with the NFC North on the line, in prime time, in the cold at Lambeau Field, has too much on the line. Green Bay has dominated this series for a decade, but hasn’t looked good the last half of the season. Can the young-and-growing Vikings regain some respect in this series and start to, again, turn it into a rivalry of must-watch proportion?
Game of the Weak: Philadelphia at NY Giants – There were not two teams in the league less interested in playing last week than the Eagles and the Giants. Chip Kelly has since been fired. I have to think that if the players could call each other up and agree to not play the game in exchange for a tie in the standings, there’s a decent chance both would agree. This is usually a rivalry game, but you might get more entertainment this year by watching two 5-7 college teams play in a useless bowl game.
