I was thinking there were a lot of upsets in week seven – but apparently they were only upsets in my mind.weekly-picks

Everyone hit nine or more except me – Tony paced things with an 11. Regular reader and guest picker Dr. Phil hit 10 – and might have nailed an 11th, but he missed the Denver/San Francisco game – sorry, Dr. Phil. I didn’t look that closely until I scored them or I would have asked.

At any rate, my eight drops me in the standings even further. Such is life – took a few chances lost week and lost.

Here are the standings:

Name Week 7 Overall
Dr. Phil 10-5 72-33-1
Tony 11-4 70-35-1
John 10-5 68-37-1
Maggio 9-6 65-39-1
Andy 8-7 63-42-1

We’re approaching the mid-point in the season and some of the haves and have-nots are starting to emerge. One would think picks might start getting easier … undoubtedly that statement will curse me to a week of eating crow once again.

Game of the Week: San Diego at Denver – The AFC West tightened up considerably last week when Kansas City upset the Chargers in San Diego. Denver looks primed for a big run, but it was Philip Rivers and Co. who took Peyton Manning and Co. down a few pegs late last season. There are a couple good games this week – I’m intrigued by the Philadelphia/Arizona game too. But this one should have a lot of fireworks attached.

Game of the Weak: Minnesota at Tampa Bay – Heading into the season this might have been one of those games people pointed to and said “two under-the-radar improving teams battle” with a chance to improve their playoff standings. They’d have been wrong. Minnesota has been a mess since losing Matt Cassel to a broken foot and Adrian Peterson to questionable parenting skills. Teddy Bridgewater has shown some signs, but this team is a ways off. Tampa has responded nicely a couple times after getting soundly beaten, but it’s still one of the league’s dogs, at least to this point. If there are any other games available, I’ll probably turn the channel.
