Some weeks you have no idea what is going to happen in the NFL. Then others, like last week, it’s awfully predictable.
The four of us combined to go 45-7 in our picks for week eight, with four of the incorrect guesses being the Giants win over Philly. Three hit 11 out of 13. I hit 12. It was a good week. So here are the standings:
Week eight | Season totals | |
Andy | 12-1 | 81-39 |
Tony | 11-2 | 77-43 |
Rich | 11-2 | 73-47 |
Maggio | 11-2 | 73-47 |
Week eight frankly offered a lot of one-sided games and, unlike many NFL weeks, those contests actually went as expected. Week nine could present another set of similar games, as it’s the second of two with six teams on bye. At least in week nine we know Jacksonville won’t lose.
Here are our picks.

Bye weeks: Arizona, Denver, Detroit, Jacksonville, NY Giants, San Francisco |
Game of the Week: Chicago at Green Bay – Would this be more enticing match-up if the Bears still had Jay Cutler or if Chicago’s defense was better than run-of-the-mill? Sure. But the Bears are still 4-3 and they still are just a game behind the division-leading Packers. Aaron Rodgers should be able to pick apart the weakened Bears’ secondary, but this is one of those rivalry games where who knows what could happen at any time. Also pondered Cincinnati and Miami for this rating, but in a flip of the coin, the rivalry wins … this time.
Game of the Weak: Tampa Bay at Seattle – This slate of games isn’t quite as ho-hum as the 13 games last week presented, but this one is devoid of a lot of flash as well. Tampa has shown signs of becoming the team the Bucs were in the 1970s and 80s – not a good sign for coach Greg Schiano. Seattle didn’t look good in squeaking by St. Louis Monday night, but that was on the road. The Seahawks are as close to dominant at home as it gets. This should be a mismatch.
Who will win the Week 9 Game of the Week?
