Life always feels a little bit more complete during the football season and that’s never more true than when the bye weeks start winding down and the games take on more importance.
That’s starting to happen now. After a few weeks of lesser inspiring match-ups and six-team bye weeks, there are finally some truly great games in store for the next three weeks.
That’s a relief. Collectively we weren’t very good at picking the winners last week. And if we can’t pick them correctly, we at least ought to be able to enjoy watching them.
Here are the standings so far:
Week 10 | Season totals | |
Andy | 10-4 | 98-49 |
Tony | 8-6 | 92-55 |
Maggio | 8-6 | 88-59 |
Rich | 5-9 | 87-60 |
So, with that mediocre week behind us, we now can look forward to a collection of games that includes Kansas City at Denver, New Orleans hosting San Francisco and even a Monday night match-up worth waiting up to watch as New England visits Carolina. Here’s who we think wins:

Game of the Week: Kansas City at Denver – As great as a couple of these games look, it’s impossible to go against the AFC West tilt in the Mile High City. The Chiefs, coming off a 2-14 season, are 9-0. Yet they just can’t seem to convince anyone they belong there. Their stingy defense will provide a test for Peyton Manning and the so-far unstoppable offense of the Broncos, who are a game back due to their only stumble against Indy. The winner of this game controls their own destiny in pursuit of the AFC’s top playoff seed. This should be a great game.
Game of the Weak: Atlanta at Tampa Bay – I am absolutely stunned that the two of these teams have combined for just three wins in 2013. But injuries robbed the Falcons of most of their offense and probably left Tony Gonzalez thinking he should have stuck to his retirement plans. And the Bucs, well, the one-time-QB-of-the-future started poorly, got benched, got cut and then played one of the ugliest games ever against the Ne w York Giants on national television. Mike Glennon has had his moments. But the season got off to a bad start when Lavonte David gift wrapped the opener for the New York Jets and it has never really gotten back on track. Easy choice here.
