Shaun King doesn’t want to say ‘blackballed,’ but he apparently thinks that the reason that Aaron Brooks, Daunte Culpepper, Byron Leftwich (and, oh…himself) don’t have jobs in the NFL is because they’re black.

So, unless you’re hiding under a rock, or you’ve wisely already made ZoneBlitz the only Web site you visit each day, you probably already know the latest news in the ongoing Favre-Packers-Vikings love triangle, which is that Favre does NOT, in fact, have a Packers issued cell phone. So, either the tampering charges were apparently based on some other evidence, or the Packers are just on a fishing trip, trying to make life as miserable for the Vikings as it has been for the Pack since Favre decided to “un-retire.”
And that got us to thinking–what are the consequences for the Packers if the Vikings are found NOT to have been tampering? If the Packers suspected that the Vikings might be tampering, since he speaks to his friend Darrell Bevell frequently, and filed the complaint simply believing that the NFL might find something–and if not, then at least the Vikings have had to deal with a problem right before training camp, there has to be some sort of consequence for filing false charges, right?
If there’s no penalty, you can expect this to become a strategy in coming seasons, as teams try to hassle division rivals to try to gain an edge. At least until Roger Goodell steps in and tells them to knock it off (a la the Poison Pill contaract provision), or he comes down hard on some team for doing so (and destroys all the evidence afterward).

In 2006, Mike Bell went from undrafted free agent to starting tailback for his hometown Denver Broncos in the first week of training camp. Despite eventually losing the starting role to Tatum Bell, he still put up a respectable 677 yards and scored 8 TDs in his rookie season.
Prospects looked decent for the Broncos, with a backfield of Bell and Bell splitting the load. But Mike Shanahan wasn’t satisfied–acting on his apparently insatiable desire to add players of questionable work effort, talent and intelligence into the fold, he acquired Travis Henry and drafted Selvin Young, which upset one Bell (Tatum) to the point of demanding a trade, and forced the other (Mike) to fullback.

Well, the only reference to Brett Favre on the SunHerald.com Web site as of this morning is for a book about the signal caller selling through something called the South Mississippi Store, so perhaps the caller to KFAN-AM Thursday afternoon was a crackpot.
Or he does work in classifieds at the paper but he jumped the gun in calling a radio station in Minnesota to say Favre wants to play for the Vikings.

As mentioned more times than you probably care to read Zoneblitz is operated by a pair of homegrown Minnesota Vikings fans. That’s been more frustrating than joyous for the past six or seven years but you’ve got to stick with your team, don’t you?
Anyway, if Dr. Z at Sports Illustrated is right we Minnesotans might finally get our payoff this year. He’s pegged the Vikes to knock off Dallas, New York, New Orleans, and all other comers to grab the NFC berth in the big game.

So, Pacman Jones wants to cut ties with his troubled past. How’s he going to do it? Anger management counseling? Distancing himself from some of his posse? Taking the stripper pole out of his living room (Actually, I suppose if I were him I’d leave that there, since he’s less likely to be arrested cavorting around with strippers in his own house)?
No. But Adam Shefter of the NFL Network is reporting that he’s planning to publicly ask media members not to refer to him as Pacman anymore.
Well, problem solved. What a fantastic solution to his legal problems of the past. There’s no way he’ll be getting arrested anymore now that he wants to be known simply as “Adam”.
My favorite part of this AOL posting on the subject is where the commenters say they quit calling him Pacman in favor of Douchecanoe and/or Inmate 6841324 long ago. They beat me to the punch in better fashion than I could have written it myself.
Dude. Do yourself a favor and stay as far away from the media as you can. Stay out of the spotlight. Stay away from the cameras. You’ve gotten enough chances now where people are going to bait you and they aren’t going to care about your efforts to change – especially when they ring as hollow as trying to erase everything away by changing your friggin’ name.
It appears as though you’re going to get your second, err, seventh chance to succeed in the NFL and, disappointingly enough, you are going to get to do it with the team you wanted to, the Dallas Cowboys. I don’t know that anyone is actively going to root against you and hope that you fail, but you’ve done nothing to engender anyone’s goodwill either. On ESPN a couple months ago you still looked like you were in denial and if I were in Vegas I’d be betting that you can’t do it.
You don’t want to be known as Pacman anymore? More power to you. But Adam, you’ll always be Assclown Jones to me.
Yes on offense I agree that controlling the ball via rushing attack is needed but like the Lions found out…

Key will be for Eagles defense to press Daniels (as rookie QB) into mistakes and perhaps INT-take advantage of his…
