NFL Picks 2014: Week 9

Dr. Phil needs to apply for a job in football. He continues to pace the pick segment. His 13 wins last week put some distance between weekly-pickshim and the rest of us. Tony continues to lead those of us who write for the site. His 11-4 also left the rest of us further in his dust. I continue lagging behind, though I can call bragging rights on the Washington win on Monday night. I’m just not sold on Dallas.

Here are the standings so far:

Name Week 8 Overall
Dr. Phil 13-2 85-35-1
Tony 11-4 81-39-1
John 9-6 77-43-1
Maggio 8-7 73-47-1
Andy 10-5 73-47-1

There are a lot of bye weeks this week and a bunch of games that feel like potential one-sided blowouts. Theoretically that could mean padding the stats a bit? There – I jinxed it. Gotta keep things interesting.

Zoneblitz Survivor Pool: Week 8

He’s unbeatable. Anthony Maggio’s fantasy football advice has undoubtedly won matchups for many all season long – and if you’ve been following his Survivor Pool approach, you’re also still in the money.

He ran his record to 7-0 in this double elimination competition from which all of his opponents have already been knocked out. So we’re spotlighting his picks and then the rest of us will weigh in with some thoughts for a consolation round pool as well. (more…)

NFL Picks 2014: Week 8

I was thinking there were a lot of upsets in week seven – but apparently they were only upsets in my mind.weekly-picks

Everyone hit nine or more except me – Tony paced things with an 11. Regular reader and guest picker Dr. Phil hit 10 – and might have nailed an 11th, but he missed the Denver/San Francisco game – sorry, Dr. Phil. I didn’t look that closely until I scored them or I would have asked.

At any rate, my eight drops me in the standings even further. Such is life – took a few chances lost week and lost.

Zoneblitz Survivor Pool: Week 7

And then there was one. Mike Nugent’s failed FG attempt as time ran out not only left Carolina and Cincinnati tied, but it knocked John Vomhof Jr. out of our double-elimination Survivor Pool. So that means, embarrassingly enough, that after just six weeks, Anthony Maggio was the last man standing.

He’ll continue on making picks to help you out with your selections. The other three of us losers are going to start a consolation round — we’ll start from scratch with the ability to pick any team we want. Anthony will stick to picking from the teams that are still available to him. The rest we’ll kind of make up as we go. (more…)

NFL Picks 2014: Week 7

Well, there weren’t a lot of upsets in week six, but the Dallas/Seattle game sure jumps out. Are we going to have to start taking the Cowboys seriously? Jerry Jones should be thanking his son Stephen for preventing him from taking Johnny Manziel. Zack Martin and that o-line have taken DeMarco Murray and Tony Romo up a notch.

On another note, Dr. Phil has been consistently on time and consistently good this season – so we’re adding him to the standings square. We’ve been doing alright, but he’s the standard bearer so far. We may have to invite him along on our next trip to Vegas.

Zoneblitz Survivor Pool: Week 6

So … maybe you want to go somewhere else for your survivor pool assistance. We’re heading into week six and two of four participants in our DOUBLE ELIMINATION pool are out with one more participant having gotten his first strike last week.

That said, if you’re still looking for advice, our Anthony Maggio and John Vomhof Jr. are still alive to help you out. Here are their picks for week six.
