Well, we’re finally here. It’s week 17. The NFC playoff participants have been decided. The AFC’s field is narrowed to just a couple question marks. The fantasy football season is complete in every sane league. And now we’ll finish up with one more run at the picks.
Week 16 didn’t go too badly, considering the weird run of games throughout the day. Four of us hit 10. Fantasy Editor Maggio hit 11. Tony has a six-game lead in the standings – the battle between us is almost for second place, where two participants are within a game of Andy. Here are the standings: (more…)
Not that we’re going to spend a lot of time peacocking or anything like that, but Tony is still picking at a top 10 level according to Pickwatch.com and each of us hit at least 11 games last week. Actually all of us did, except Rich, who nailed 12. So it was a solid week.
We’re actually holding our own in this segment. We suck at survivor pools and our bets have been just abysmal … but we generally can make a decent guess at who is going to win a game straight up.
Here’s where we’re at with standings so far:
Week 15
Season
Rich
12-4
138-86
Tony
11-5
145-79
Andy
11-5
139-85
Maggio
11-5
136-88
Vomhof
11-5
129-95
This will be a difficult week, what with the holidays and all. Will the teams out of the playoff race show up to play or are their bags already packed? Will the teams who need to win be focused or will their minds be on the last-minute Christmas shopping they have to finish?
We’re at the three-quarter pole of the season. The playoff races are starting to clear up, though our picks remain inconsistent, at best.
Andy and Tony tied at 11 last week with everyone else falling a game or so behind. Tony is running away with the season-long tally, however. Barring a complete collapse he’ll be hard to catch at this point.
Here’s where we stand:
Week 14
Season
Tony
11-5
134-74
Andy
11-5
128-80
Vomhof
10-6
118-90
Rich
9-7
126-82
Maggio
8-8
125-83
I keep waiting for the barnburner week of division games with playoff implications. This season’s schedule has had a lot of weird, dud games throughout. That mostly continues, even this late in the season. Here’s what we think is going to happen: (more…)
So who would have thought the Carolina Panthers would be the last undefeated team in the league? And that they’d not lose a game by week 14? And that the next closest team to them would have two losses? And that the Patriots would lose to the Eagles at home, especially after taking a 14-0 lead?
We could play this game all day. The 2015 season has been one for the unexpected and that continued last week. Still, four of our pickers got 10 right and Fantasy Editor Anthony Maggio paced us all with 11. If you didn’t look at the prior 12 weeks, you might think we actually know what we’re doing here… or maybe not.
But anyway, week 14 arrives in a couple days. And here is where our picks stand so far:
As a staff we’ve kind of rotated throughout the season as to whom actually seems to know what is going on in the league. It’s Andy’s turn right now, as he turned in his second straight week hitting 11 games.
If we could ever figure out who the hot hand was going to be ahead of time we might be able to hit Vegas and actually win some money. Unfortunately, the hot streaks seem to be coming from thin air.
Tony continues to have the highest mark for the season, but Andy is catching up. Everyone else in week 12 hit no more than nine games. That’s put Andy solidly in second, just three games behind the top spot.
That allowed him to pick up three games in the overall standings, as nobody else cleared eight.
Seven games separate the top (Tony) from fourth (Maggio), with two of our pickers selecting winners accurately enough to rank in the top 25 (tied) with the so-called experts followed by NFLPickwatch.com.
We may be having a down season by our standards, but it appears as though it’s either not as bad as we thought or we are not alone.
Mild consolation after the struggles of the last month.
