NFL Picks 2016: Week two

NFL Picks 2016: Week two

Well … that was ugly.

Contributing writer John Vomhof led the pack by picking 11 games correctly in week one. Nobody else got more than nine. Fantasy Editor Maggio missed 10.

All in all, it was a rough start to the season for our pickers. Better things to come?

Here are the standings:

  Record
Vomhof 11-5
Tony 9-7
Andy 8-8
Maggio 6-10

It’s difficult to get a read on the NFL for the first few weeks of the season. And week two presents another collection of unpredictable match-ups. Here are our picks: (more…)

NFL Picks 2016: Week one

I saw Peyton Manning doing another cheesy commercial the other day. This time he was inviting Eli over on Sunday to watch NFL Sunday Ticket. Eli was preparing to play a game.

Yes, Peyton is retired, but – the more things change, the more they stay the same. It seems we’ll still be able to count on him for some doofus TV ads. Those eye-rolling gems mean we’re just a couple days short of the kickoff of another NFL season.

And in keeping with the way the NFL does things, there are some good, tough games to pick in week one. We’re 80 percent back from last year, with Andy, Tony, John and Anthony returning to show our game-picking skills, or lack thereof. Here is our effort for week one. (more…)

NFL Picks 2015: Super Bowl

Road teams ruled the wild card round, but home teams have come back with a vengeance. In the six games since weekly-picksthey are undefeated.

That means it’s number one versus number one in the Super Bowl – as it probably should be for the league’s 50th big game.

Tony nailed the conference championship winners. He’s tied with John Vomhof for the entirety of the postseason. The rest of us split the championship games. Here are the standings heading into the Super Bowl.

Conf Champ Postseason
Tony 2-0 8-2
John Vomhof Jr 1-1 8-2
Anthony Maggio 1-1 7-3
Andy 1-1 6-4

And after 21 weeks of football, it all comes down to this. Two suffocating defenses and two great QB storylines – the young, brash rising star and the old, breaking down, hall-of-famer to be – squaring off for the Lombardi Trophy. Here’s how we see it: (more…)

NFL Picks 2015: Conference Championship round

The road teams ruled the wild card round. Home teams came back with a vengeance in the divisionals.weekly-picks

It was a four-game sweep, with Tony and John hitting them all.

Anthony hit three of four. Andy foolishly thought the road dominance would continue. He was 1-3. Here are the standings:

Last week Playoffs
John Vomhof Jr 4-0 7-1
Tony 4-0 6-2
Maggio 3-1 6-2
Andy 1-3 5-3

NFL Picks 2015: Divisional round

The regular season champ ran into some difficulty last week with his picks. Tony went just 2-2, due in large part to his faith in Cincinnati.

Everyone else sensed the Bengals’ meltdown coming. Andy nailed the Green Bay win over Washington, to finish with the week’s only perfect record.

Wild card round Record
Andy 4-0
Maggio 3-1
Vomhof 3-1
Tony 2-2

Where the road teams swept last week, most expect a resurgence of home team dominance in the divisional round.

Here’s who we’re picking. (more…)

NFL Picks 2015: Wild Card round

Ok, it’s been 17 weeks and the riffraff has been eliminated. It’s down to 12. And this week’s wild card round has four weekly-pickssolid, interesting games on the slate. Tony won the regular season pick segment. Can he keep it up in the playoffs?

Here’s who we think wins this weekend:

Andy Tony John Maggio
Saturday, January 9
Kansas City at Houston Kansas City Kansas City Kansas City Kansas City
Pittsburgh at Cincinnati Pittsburgh Cincinnati Pittsburgh Pittsburgh
Sunday, January 10
Seattle at Minnesota Seattle Seattle Seattle Seattle
Green Bay at Washington Green Bay Washington Washington Washington

Maggio’s Take: There’s not a game here I’m not excited to watch for various reasons. Even the teams that “snuck” (more…)
