2013 Playoff Previews: Championship Weekend

Well, the divisional round of playoffs wasn’t quite as spectacular in its drama and excitement as wild card weekend was,weekly-bets but there were still some quality football games. And the results set up two fantastic match-ups in the Championship games.

As far as last week’s hypothetical wagers go, San Diego’s late rally wasn’t enough to upset the Broncos, but it did give the Chargers a cover, which dropped me from 3-1 to 2-2 against the spread. I did go 3-1 in over/under bets, so not all was lost.

So, for the playoffs, I’m 3-5 against the spread and 4-4 in over/unders. Not going to hit early retirement that way: Still plenty of room for improvement. And it doesn’t bode well. I feel like I know who is going to win this weekend’s games, but I think the spreads are right on the nose and I expect two close, tough games (Odds current as of 3:45 p.m. Wednesday per VegasInsider.com).

2012-2013 College Bowl Betting

With our NFL Bets being so terribly this season, I thought we should take a stab at something different this season, and place some bets on some of the top college games. So we pulled up some of the college bowl game lines, and away we go.

To make things a little more interesting:

  • We each get to make 9 bets from a select list of Bowl games
  • We have a theoretical budget of $2,500 to spend
  • We have to place a minimum bet of $100 on any game we choose to bet on
  • We must spend the full budget
  • We must bet on the Alabama/ND game, the Kansas St/Oregon game, the Texas A&M/Oklahoma game, the Wisconsin/Stanford game, the Nebraska/Georgia game, and the Minnesota/Texas Tech game.

LAS VEGAS – Well, the Blackjack tables haven’t really gotten any kinder yet despite heroic – or perhaps desperate – efforts that lasted until 3:30 a.m. Las Vegas time.

Despite the late night my brother and I did manage to hit the Golden Nugget’s Sports Book before kickoff of the early games this afternoon in an effort to get some money on something besides 21.

We ended up with a collection of picks that included betting against our alma mater and a couple that, frankly, didn’t look all that great as halftime approached. Our selections were as follows:
