Alternative picks: Week 2, 2019

Alternative picks: Week 2, 2019

Did week one feel weird to anyone else? Guys like Mike Evans coming up with one catch while guys like John Ross and Sammy Watkins catch a million yards worth of passes and score three times?

I guess that’s just the NFL. It WAS good to have real games back. The NFL’s 100th season is going to b ea good one.

It started out especially well for Andy, who, despite picking the Colts by mistake, still captured the win with a 9-6-1 mark. On another note, no more fitting tie has ever taken place than the one between Arizona and Detroit – ties were made for those two organizations, who have spent years not being able to get out of their own respective way.

But we digress … here are the standings:

Week 1 Andy 9-6-1
Season Andy 9-6-1

And here are the picks for week 2: (more…)

Bet the Mortgage: Week 2, 2019

Okay, so what in the hell were the Texans thinking Monday night playing 20 yards downfield when Drew Brees needed about six yards on the last offensive play to give his kicker a shot at the game-winning field goal?

This has not been a very productive segment for us for years, but we were both a Texans’ upset from finishing solidly in the money in week one. Instead, Tony got a small win and Andy took a small loss. Nothing humiliating. A good start… but it could have been so much better.

Here are the standings:

  Week 1 W/L Week 1 $ Season W/L Season $ Bankroll
Tony 2-2 +$409 2-2 +$409 $10,409
Andy 1-2-1 -$400 1-2-1 -$400 $9,600

And, so, we’ve begun. Tony’s got the lead, so here goes: (more…)

This segment has been mostly laughable in the years since we started. We’ve pondered killing it. We’ve pondered different ways of doing it. But in the end, we just keep coming back to the mythical $10,000 bankroll that both of us usually manage to piss away well before the season ends.

So, please, for the love of God, don’t use these bets for anything more than entertainment purposes.

Here are the opening standings:

Bankroll
Andy $10,000
Tony $10,000

And here are our first bets for the 2019 season: (more…)

Alternative Picks: Week 1, 2019

Didn’t it feel this year like the offseason took forever? Finally, the Bears and Packers kick things off Thursday night. And we’re back with our highly acclaimed, err perhaps highly scorned, Alternative Picks segment.

Each week we’ll alternate making picks in contest fashion. Then we’ll also pick the games straight up. These picks are for entertainment purposes only and should not be used to, you know, bet or anything like that.

Tony won big in 2017. Andy won big last year. Who will show up this season?

Standings:

Season 0-0
