This is turning into a bad joke. Andy got killed again. Not that Tony’s picks have been great, but … Andy’s continue to be godawful. What we anticipated would be a fun contest where one of us might owe the equivalent of a Subway sandwich is turning into a Manny’s Steakhouse dinner.
Andy’s going to need to turn things around fast or he’s going to have to start digging into college funds to pay the debt. Here are the standings:
The one week stretch of strong bets dissipated fast. Andy and Tony both took it in the shorts in week six.

Andy: Well, that was fun while it lasted. Back to the drawing board. It seems every time I think I’ve figured this season out … well, that’s only happened once. And look where that got me.
As I was driving into work this morning, the topic of kneeling for the national anthem once again came up on sports talk radio. So, I started to think some more about the situation, which for the last few weeks I’ve largely been trying to avoid.
There seems to be little doubt at this point that the NFL owners simply would like the topic to disappear. As much as they don’t want to admit it, it’s hurting the bottom line for the conversation to continue focusing on pre-game activities, and the number of people who are outraged and/or actively avoiding the league over this topic seems to be at a minimum holding steady, if not growing.
At the same time, the owners also are clearly not pleased with a certain President stick (more…)
Well, at least it was a contest last week. We were tied going into the Sunday night game, but Tony got that one and the Monday nighter, to pull off his fifth straight win to start the season. Most troubling to Andy has to be his inability to pick winners in the early rounds of selecting games – of the first eight games last week, Tony got six.
Andy’s going back to picking second and third this week. He’s going to have to either start catching up in the standings or take out a second mortgage on his house. We’ll see. Here are the standings:
Week five was solid. Andy and Tony both hit three of four – they missed their upset, but scored well enough in their spread games to have solid weeks. Tony’s bankroll is steadily growing, as he’s hit almost two of every three games he’s bet so far. Andy had dug himself a hole the previous couple weeks, but he’s within striking distance of even.
If things keep going this route, Andy may need a loan. Just like being in Vegas, I guess.
Can Tony keep it going? Can Andy turn it around? Here’s where we stand:

Andy:
Good @$%^&*$^ grief. It’s bad enough I’m getting my ass kicked in our Alternative Picks. Here too? Normally, by now, Tony is trying to avoid running into mythical mafiosos right now who would be looking to break his mythical legs for all his bad bets. Now he can’t miss. WTF. (more…)
