Bet the Mortgage: Week 14, 2016

Stop me if you’ve heard this before. Andy and Tony went .500 last week, pocketed a small hypothetical profit and … yawn.

This was a lot more entertaining space to write when Tony’s bankroll was heading underwater and when Andy looked like he might be able to fund a mythical retirement.

Nonetheless, our pickers are back for another week of fantastic pretend gambling exploits.

NFL Survivor Pool 2016: Week 14

When you get down to picking San Francisco and Chicago, you know it’s getting late in the season. There aren’t a lot of easy ones left. Our group went 3-2 last week, with the Bears and the Saints providing the disappointment.

NFL Picks 2016: Week 14

Kansas City beats Atlanta on an intercepted two-point return. The Lions, of all teams, prevent Drew Brees from throwing a TD pass at home. The seemingly hapless Cardinals figure it out against surging Washington.

The NFL is a weird, unpredictable business. And we kind of got swept up in it again last week.

Andy paced the picks for the second time in three weeks, hitting just 10 of 15. John Vomhof hit nine. The rest was a little on the ugly side.

Here are the standings heading into the final quarter of the season.

Andy finally did break the 100-win mark. He’s actually on a 31-14 run the last few weeks. Tony’s 25-5 two-week stretch snapped last week. Can we get back on track?

After a horrid start, Tony is now starting to talk about getting back to even someday. Andy is … wallowing in a little up, a little down. Boring.

Tony’s 3-1 mark was one gutty pick away from being an undefeated week. Andy was let down by the hobbled Angry-Tom-Brady-to-Rob-Gronkowski duo. Will he move on or is he stuck on them?

Tony is 25-5 in picks the last two weeks. Not a bad run. He led the pack in week 12 with a 14-2 mark. Maggio hit 13. The rest of us … meh.
