Our picks seemed to be going better through the early games on Sunday. Then the afternoon kickoffs hit and … everything went to hell again.
Losses by Seattle, Oakland, Jacksonville, Green Bay and Chicago took solid numbers and turned them into near .500 level performances by the ZB pickers again this week.
John Vomhof Jr. is the only one who seems to have any clue what’s going to happen. He paced the picks for the second week in a row, with 10 correct.
Here are the standings:

Well, there’s still almost nowhere to go but up, I guess. Here are our picks for week 3. (more…)
This new segment will attempt each week, at least for the first eight to 10 weeks of the season, to take a look at outlier stat lines to see who might truly be a contributor to your fantasy football success and whose big weeks may be a mirage.
NY Jets: It’s my intention to write this column every week, earlier in the week than Friday. So I’m cheating a bit on this one, since Enunwa has played two games already.
I had just gotten done throwing a theory out to my cousin Rich, an occasional contributor to this site, about how the 2016 Vikings bore some resemblance to the 1980 Raiders. Just then I heard a producer on 1500 ESPN radio in the Twin Cities theorize that newly acquired QB Sam Bradford may be in a similar situation as Jim Plunkett was during that season 36 years ago.
It’s not an apples-for-apples comparison. Plunkett had already been on the Raiders’ roster in 1979, though he threw just 15 passes. He was backing up Dan Pastorini, who had become Oakland’s QB when Ken Stabler was moved to Houston.
But Plunkett had struggled for eight seasons on mostly bad teams to live up to expectations after entering the NFL as the top pick in the 1971 draft. That’s similar to the path Bradford has been on. He was rookie of the year after being the top pick in 2010, but then tore up his knee twice and has since struggled to find the right fit. (He missed the entire 2014 campaign with a torn ACL, his second in as many seasons.) (more…)

Whew. We were about a minute from all five of us losing our survivor picks in week one. That would have been embarrassing.
As it turns out, playing it safe was the way to go. Three pickers took Seattle. Three pickers survived. One took Los Angeles and one took Arizona. They start the consolation round. Looks like the respective pickers’ strategies aren’t changing much in week two:
At a 3-0-1 clip for week one, Andy started this year’s “Bet the Mortgage” segment with a better week than he had all last season.
Tony didn’t fare quite as well, but he did take advantage of an outlier money line bet on the Giants to cash in with a positive week – he’s a mythical $305 closer to paying back the debt he owes the sharks from last season.
All in all, we added a combined roughly 10 percent to the pot in week one. Can we keep it going?
Guys I think we got our first clue this is going to be a small class I looked at the…
I like all the Senior Nominees but if I were to guess I'd say Sharpe,Holmgren Tyrer.

Paul: thank you for mentioning Mike Tanier. Didn’t know about his work previously. Good access and insight.
