Bet the Mortgage: Week 11, 2015 – Best Bets

This season just keeps getting weirder and weirder. Both of us took another step back last week – Andy by a few weekly-betshundred bucks. Tony by most of what was left of his imaginary bankroll.

So … Andy retains the lead in this contest, albeit a rather embarrassing one – between the two of them, they’ve lost about 75 percent of the imaginary budget they were allotted heading into the season.

Here are the standings:

Last week Last week $ Overall Overall $ Bankroll
Andy 2-2 -$491 16-23-1 -$5,042 $4,958
Tony 1-3 -$2,630 16-23-1 -$7,946 $2,054

And here we go with another week of banging our heads against a wall. (more…)

NFL Picks 2015: Week 11

Let’s start out by talking about what went right last week.

Now that we’ve gotten through that, let’s talk about the rest.

Holy cow, this football season is bizarre. Green Bay starts 6-0 then loses three straight, including at home to a team that hadn’t won in Lambeau Field since 1991?

Peyton Manning throws four interceptions and basically gives his team no chance to win on the day he breaks the passing yardage record?

The NFL irritates people with color blindness by putting teams in all green and all red uniforms in a nationally-televised Thursday night game? Actually, I kind of got a kick out of the furor the NFL faced on that one – well deserved. The best description I heard of those uniforms was that it looked like Christmas barfed up a football game.

But I digress.

Our week 10 picks were ugly. Very ugly. Only one of us – Tony – got more than half the games correct. John Vomhof Jr. got half of them right. The rest of us tied at five. Putrid.

Here are the standings:

  Week 10 Season
Tony 8-6 96-50
Vomhof 7-7 82-64
Rich 5-9 92-54
Maggio 5-9 89-57
Andy 5-9 88-58

Well, we’ll put this one behind us. Here are our picks for week 11. (more…)

Zoneblitz Survivor Pool 2015: Week 10

Hmm.

We may need to hire an oversight editor. Contributor Rich won this Survivor Pool about a month ago, but his quest for a perfect season ended last week – not because he missed a game, but because he duplicated a previous pick.

We’re low tech and low budget here at Zoneblitz. We don’t have an alarm or anything to alert us to something like this, so if the posting editor gets busy and misses it … oops. Our bad.

At any rate, Rich has still picked each game correctly this season – and it’s still feasible that some people in survivor pools still had the Jets available to them last week. So … hopefully, no harm, no foul. Nonetheless – we’ll do better going forward.

Now, moving forward, everyone was correct in their picks last week except Andy. Andy isn’t doing much of anything right this season. Listen to everyone else.

Here’s where we are at: (more…)

NFL Picks 2015: Week 10

Well … that was ugly.weekly-picks

Only one of our pickers hit eight games in week nine. Rich, who won our survivor pool, stayed hot in an unpredictable week.

The rest of us ranged from four (Andy) to seven correct. Just one of those weeks, I guess.

Here are the standings:

Week 9 Season
Rich 8-5 87-45
Tony 7-6 88-44
Maggio 6-7 84-48
Vomhof 6-7 75-57
Andy 4-9 83-49

Bet the Mortgage: Week 10, 2015 – Best Bets

Week nine wasn’t bad … at least compared with most other weeks so far this season.weekly-bets

Typically one of us goes 2-2 and makes about $22 while the other goes 1-3 or 0-3-1 and loses his shirt. Last week Andy had a season best 3-1 mark while Tony finished 2-2 – though he did lose a piece.

That does actually give Andy a 5-3 record the last two weeks and the remaining bankroll lead for the season as he tries to recover from a disastrous first seven weeks of betting. He at least appears to have prevented for another week some hypothetical muscle from breaking his imaginary legs.

Here are the standings so far:

Last week Last week $ Overall Overall $ Bankroll
Andy 3-1 +$1,358 14-21-1 -$4,651 $5,349
Tony 2-2 -$1,011 15-20-1 -$5,316 $4,684
