We didn’t even make it out of the first week of NFL training camps without our first major injury.
Houston Texans star Arian Foster suffered a significant groin injury on during the club’s first practice with pads. Word is that he’ll need surgery and will end up on the IR/designated to return, meaning he’ll be out until at least Week 10.
Foster—who had, on average, been going No. 7 overall in early drafts—suddenly becomes undraftable in all but the deepest leagues. He’ll miss over two-thirds of the fantasy regular season, and there’s no guarantee he’ll be healthy or effective after that.
So, who’s going to carry the load for the Texans this year?
None of the other running backs in camp are anything special. (more…)
Tuesday’s open of NFL free agency did not disappoint. In fact, it was probably one of the most active in years, boasting a flurry of signings and re-signings, and even one blockbuster trade.
There’s plenty more to come in the days ahead, but here’s a way-too-early look at some of the biggest winners and losers after Day 1.
WINNERS:
Jets – Revis Island is returning to the J-E-T-S. That alone makes Day 1 successful for a team that struggled mightily in the secondary last year after missing out on Revis. (more…)
The 2014 NFL season is officially in the books, following a thrilling Super Bowl that went right down to the wire.
The New England Patriots are champs again for the first time in a decade… And we’re left to wait. And wait. And wait.
It’s going to be another seven months before we get to watch another meaningful pro football game—a dreadful thought that actually makes you long for a Titans-Jaguars game on Thursday Night Football.
But, instead of crying into our coffee, it’s time to start looking ahead to next year.
We’ll revisit this throughout the offseason, but you’ve got to start somewhere. So with that said, here it is—our way too early 2015 power rankings.
Last week’s games present an interesting dilemma. The team I thought was the best in the league won, but not in convincing fashion. How does that shake things up? Here goes:
1. SEAHAWKS: The Seahawks showed why they’re the team to beat again this year in a 31-17 win over Carolina last weekend. And here’s the key: That’s the most points Seattle has allowed since Week 11. The Packers present a much tougher challenge, but the league’s best home-field advantage should be enough to get the Seahawks to their second straight Super Bowl.
2. PACKERS: The Pack has the league’s best player and a first-round bye, and they’ve won seven of their last eight games, including an impressive victory over the Pats at Lambeau Field. The only question is whether this high-powered offense can outplay the Seahawks defense in Seattle.
3. PATRIOTS: New England trailed the Ravens by 14 points not once but twice last week. They got the job done, thanks in part to Bill Belichick’s trickery, but they’ll need to play better to beat the Colts. That said, the Pats are still the better all-around team and they’ve been here before.
4. COLTS: The Colts have played great football in knocking off the Bengals and Broncos the past two weeks. There’s no doubt that Andrew Luck is ready to lead a Super Bowl team, and the defense is playing the best it has all year, thanks largely to the return of a healthy Arthur Jones at defensive end. They’ll play the Pats much closer than they did in a 42-20 loss in Week 11, but it still feels like this Colts club is still a year away from taking the next step.
Yes on offense I agree that controlling the ball via rushing attack is needed but like the Lions found out…
Paul: easier said than done. Daniels is not your typical rookie qb. He already has more no punt/no turnover games…
Key will be for Eagles defense to press Daniels (as rookie QB) into mistakes and perhaps INT-take advantage of his…
Brian Wolf: I love your optimism, but I’m not so sure. Philly is a deeply flawed team, but I’m not…
Good playoff games this weekend, with the Bills getting another chance to beat the Chiefs in postseason. I predict they…
